I was excited from the first moment I saw the teaser poster for this film. I couldn't wait to see it. I just hoped it would live up to all of my wild expectations.
This movie is awesome.
It is funny, sentimental, inspiring, sad, powerful, and beautiful. You'll spend a lot of time laughing, a lot of time cheering on Raya, and a lot of time holding your breath as she faces difficult challenges head on.
Awkwafina plays the last dragon, and she is nothing short of incredible. She is riotously funny, thoroughly likeable, and a complete pain when it comes to Raya.
The animation is astounding. To the point where my 10 year old daughter was convinced that some of the scenes were animation over live action. (They aren't). But it is true, the animation is possibly the best ever. In fact, there is one scene where Raya is crying that looks so real, I was almost convinced that they were real tears.
The story is wonderful, too. It is compelling, exciting, and filled with wonder and magic. It is a Disney Princess story told in a new and bold way.
This is a fantastic film for the whole family. Load up the car and take them all to see it this weekend.
